While traveling, Simon discovers how many people want their pictures taken, especially since the men are coming back from the war. To prepare for this, Simon alters the camera so that it can take entire rolls of film.

He moves to a town called Springdale, which has a large number of soldiers coming home. In one week, everyone in the town has their pictures taken.

He spends a full night developing them. When he comes out of the darkroom the next morning, everyone is gone.

He continued traveling, and writes a journal about his adventures.
